I decided to visit Prezzo at Marischal Square to sample their ARW deal after taking in a live show of ZOG (my son Innes’s favourite book) at His Majesty's Theatre. A short walk up from there in the lovely early evening sunshine, we took our seats in the light airy restaurant with lovely views out to Marischal College and the Broad Street fountains to one side and historic Provost Skene’s House to the other. I loved the greenery everywhere, including a life size tree in the centre of the restaurant.
A 3-course meal with a toddler in tow is ambitious so we quickly made our selections – the ARW deal includes a drink so feeling summery I elected for an Aperol spritz and my husband Sandy went with a traditional Italian Peroni. Innes amused himself with the crayons provided.
The starters arrived and I was surprised by the size of my bruschetta – almost a mini pizza in itself! It was delicious – warm bread, freshly chopped tomatoes and torn mozzarella with moreish garlic oils and plenty of pesto – I mean what is not to like! Sandy also enjoyed his calamari which was light and served with a tasty pesto mayo dip. Innes chomped down on some veg sticks and hummus.
For our mains we both went for a pizza. My choice was advertised with Goats Cheese but as I’m not a fan I was kindly allowed to substitute for mozzarella to go with the sun-blushed tomatoes, spinach, olives, peppers and unusual red pepper tapenade. The red pepper base gave the pizza a nice sweet edge, contrasted by the salty olives. Sandy chose La Milano Pizza which is served with chilled toppings including burrata mozzarella, prosciutto and rocket, apparently as the Italians do in the summer. We both polished off our dishes as Innes enjoyed a mushroom pizza, removing the mushrooms of course (kids!)
By this point we were rather full but there was just space for a sweet treat to finish. Both were beautifully presented – as a cheesecake obsessive Sandy opted for a Honeycomb Cheesecake and I never turn down a chocolate option so chose the Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart which was decorated with golden chocolate pieces. Innes stole the accompanying fresh raspberries.
All in all we had a lovely family dinner. Prezzo are offering their Summer Set Menu as their ARW deal, which at only £18.95 per person including a drink is fantastic value. It’s very child friendly too with their children’s menu priced at only £3.95. I’d recommend them as a great option both this week and beyond!
