The Station Hotel has not remained firmly in business this last 125 years by failing to anticipate what folk like, when it comes to eating and drinking. And their contribution to the wide variety of eating experiences available as part of Aberdeen Restaurant Week is no exception. So, Friday lunchtime saw a great cross section of Aberdonians in to enjoy everything from a quick bite in their lunchbreak to an Afternoon Tea, which arrived at the table next to ours, accompanied by a proper pop of fizz!
Somewhat sadly, on this occasion we were the former, so settled in for a look at the lunchtime menu. You can choose from sandwiches and wraps with delicious fillings such as Chicken & Bacon in a Creamy Dill Mayonnaise or the rather spectacular sounding Station Hotel Club Sandwich with Chicken, Egg, Ham & Cheese. Additionally, in the Hot Mains section, you’ll find all the traditional favs such as Macaroni, Burgers and Beer Battered Haddock, as well as a fresh-sounding Greek Salad.
I chose one of MY old favs, Chicken Maryland – breaded butterfly breast of chicken, pineapple, bacon, mini corn cob and a good portion of chips. My dining chum went slightly more modern with Smothered Chicken, a grilled breast of chicken, topped with cherry tomato concasse, and “smothered” in mozzarella. The flavours and the freshness of both these dishes were a perfect Friday feast for us.
And, since it was Friday, we shared two delicious puds, choosing Belgian Waffles and the ubiquitous STP, which were both waffly and sticky, as required! £10 each and out in under an hour, having had a proper lunch, in one of the city centre’s hidden gems. Thank Foodie It’s Friday…
