We were really excited about the latest AWR and kicked off at the Ferry House Hotel. It was a wet stormy night, so great to be able to park at the door and go into such a warm, inviting and really comfortable and clean hotel. Both the bar and restaurant were busy but not packed - not bad for a cold, rainy Monday night. The staff were really friendly, welcoming and the service was excellent throughout - nothing was any problem and the courses flowed well with time to chat and enjoy a nice atmosphere.
Laura kicked off with tomato bruschetta and I had the tomato soup. Lovely food with good sized portions, just the tick to warm you up from the cold.
We followed up with spicy sole goujons and the Rancher chicken. Wow, these were big portions, even by my standards, and the food was traditional and tasty. Superb value.
After the mammoth main course, dessert was a bit of a thought but we didn’t want to let anybody down. Laura had the chocolate and raspberry cheesecake and this was her fav of the night - she is a 'dessert girl' and was well impressed. I warmed down with ice cream and sorbet - if you like plenty of food then this is the place to be.
The Ferryhill did us proud on a dreadful stormy night. Lovely hotel, good service from friendly engaging staff and great value for large portions. I would recommend a visit if you have a free evening and a big appetite. Great start to AWR!
