Aberdeen Restaurant Week is back and bigger than ever for 2020.
We were delighted to be asked to be part of the Ambassador team. As part of this role we were invited to try The Globe Inn’s £20 three course dinner menu.
The Globe Inn is tucked away just off Golden Square. It has recently changed hands and the new owners have worked hard to create a welcoming pub atmosphere with live music, a wide range of drinks and good pub food.
We hadn’t been to The Globe Inn before so had no idea what to expect… The bar is tucked down a wee side street with a very traditional looking entrance. The bar was busy despite it being a Tuesday night and the atmosphere was welcoming and cosy.
To kick off our meal we tucked into the haggis bon bons and soup of the day.
The haggis bon bons were great, rich and crispy then dunked into a pepper sauce. It was a brilliant portion for a starter and got us excited for our mains. Soup of the day was yellow pea which certainly warmed us up on a particularly chilly winter day.
So we have always wanted to try Chicken Parmigiana, there was the option to have it served on a bed of chips or spaghetti. We went for the spaghetti for something a little different. So imagine a rich tomato spaghetti base, with a huge crispy chicken breast all topped off with melted cheese…carbs please! Our second main was salmon fish cakes served with rice and asparagus. It was served with a spicy tomato sauce. We particularly enjoyed that they were packed with salmon and again it was a huge portion size.
Lastly with our pudding stomachs at the ready, we tucked into our desserts. And oh my were they worth squeezing in.
We love sticky toffee and it’s always a challenge not to order it. This time we couldn’t resist and enjoyed a huge slab of sticky toffee. The sauce to sponge ratio was a 10/10. Our second pudding was a plum and apple crumble with ice cream. The plum added a winter twist to a classic pudding and the crumble topping added a sweet kick. We were stuffed, but our plates were cleared!
We really enjoyed checking out somewhere totally new to us. We loved the cosy atmosphere and the great comfort of good pub food. Check this spot out for a great feed with some really tasty options from their ARW2020.
We really enjoyed our dinner and will head back here to soak up more of the atmosphere, particularly when there are big sporting events on. The set up is perfect to enjoy a bite to eat, a pint and watch the big game.
Where are you booking for ARW2020? The choice is unreal and we think you’ll struggle to pick just the one…
